Al Sidr Environmental Film Festival 2026

Discover films from across the world at Al Sidr’s fifth edition, bringing environmental stories, ecological ideas, and inspiring conversations to Abu Dhabi.
Spend three days discovering stories of what happens when environmental attention turns from documenting damage to repairing it at the fifth edition of the Al Sidr Environmental Film Festival at NYU Abu Dhabi.

Supported by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, this year's theme is Mend, or رَمِّم in Arabic. The word describes the careful restoration of something worth preserving, whether a building, manuscript, or piece of heritage.

At Al Sidr, that idea turns towards the natural world, exploring what it takes to restore habitats, recover species, practise responsible water stewardship, repair damaged land, and pass ecological knowledge from one generation to the next.

Across the festival, international documentaries and short films explore ecology, conservation, climate, and water alongside panels, exhibitions, and guided ecological activities. Closer to home, the festival turns the spotlight on conservation work across the UAE, from mangrove and coral restoration to habitat rehabilitation and species recovery.

Led by artistic director Nezar Andary, Al Sidr has been held since 2020 and is created for the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi. Hosted by NYU Abu Dhabi, the festival also extends to schools, venues, and landscapes across the emirate.

Previous editions have welcomed more than 5,000 attendees and reached 2,000 students across more than twenty Abu Dhabi schools.

Step into three days of films, conversations, and real-world ideas that show what restoration can look like in action.

Al Sidr Environmental Film Festival
The Al Sidr Environmental Film Festival believes that the scope of environmental issues, such as climate change, can make the subjects distant, abstract, and disconnected from our present. Therefore, we believe it’s the role of artists and gifted communicators to help inspire and stimulate audiences to understand the threats to our planet.  We want to make them more visceral, textured, and intimate.

Each year, Al Sidr Environmental Festival not only focuses on a theme, but also seeks to curate both cinematic and artistic achievement at the highest levels. Our films provoke emotional experience and stimulate intellectual ideas. We search for films that represent environmental movements and science in both sophistication and elegant nuance. We differentiate ourselves from media and public relations videos, as the films should be created to open audiences to envision new perspectives on the environment and climate change. Finally, we strive to create safe and ethical ways for our city festivals to present themselves-ethical in terms of promoting sustainability.
