The SCHLINGEL International Film Festival is an annual event dedicated to showcasing films for children and young audiences.

Established in 1996, it takes place in Chemnitz, Germany, typically during the week preceding the Saxon Fall Break.

The festival offers a comprehensive overview of the latest international productions in children's and youth cinema.

Organized by the Saxon Children and Youth Films Association, with support from the Saxon Institution for Private Broadcasting and New Media since 2006, SCHLINGEL has grown into a significant platform for filmmakers to present their work to younger audiences.

Greetings from Mars (2023)

When his mother travels abroad, Tom and his siblings spend four weeks with their grandparents, a mission he treats as astronaut training. With “crew” Nina and Elmar, he bravely explores the strange world of “Planet Luna.”

Pettson and Findus – A Little Nuisance, A Great Friendship (2013)
Lonely inventor Pettersson finds joy again when his new kitten, Findus, begins to speak. Their bond is tested when a rooster joins the household and steals the spotlight—but friendship proves stronger than jealousy.

Fritzi – A Revolutionary Tale (2019)
In 1989 Leipzig, twelve-year-old Fritzi sets out to reunite her friend Sophie, who has fled East Germany, with her dog Sputnik. Facing strict teachers and guarded borders, Fritzi discovers courage and the power of freedom.

Best of German SCHLiNGEL Shorts

Scrubby (2023): Scrubby lives a secure and warm life in his mother’s fur, until she slowly loses it. When he’s searching for her, he meets a naked, freezing creature. Is his fur enough for the both of them?

Glow (2023): No power, no action!

Master Painter Ernst (2022): Forgetful Squirrel “Ernst” almost goes nuts looking for his meticulously hidden acorns. Only a shift in perspective can help him now.

Master Painter Dotty (2024): The highly inspired turtle Dotty enthusiastically paints one picture after another. But her grandma doesn’t like any of the artwork. This seems strange to Dotty until she discovers the real reason.

Operation Rising Tusk (2015): The USA start the space program “Operation Rising Tusk” and send an elephant into space to challenge the USSR. Soon a wild elephant is on the space journey to face the space-dog Laika.

Red (2020): A story about a little explorer and a world, that is much more colourful, than it first seems.

Meta (2022): An animated film that takes up topics such as change, cycles, connection, and interaction in a playful and experimental way. The aim is to show that everything consists of many parts and that in the end we are all connected with each other.
