Professional Sumo Comes to Abu Dhabi for the First Time

A sport rarely witnessed outside Japan is being presented live in Abu Dhabi for the first time.

The All-Star Sumo Elite Competition takes place at Space42 Arena on Saturday, September 26, 2026, marking the first international professional sumo exhibition ever staged in the UAE. Nine elite wrestlers will compete in 36 dynamic bouts on a competition platform prepared specifically for the event, combining elite athletic contest with the ceremonial traditions that define the sport.

The lineup features athletes from Japan, Mongolia, and Egypt representing world championship titles, Emperor’s Cup honours, and decades of professional competition. Headlining the event is Ichi (Japan), winner of the Emperor’s Cup, the highest achievement in professional sumo, and a former top division professional rikishi. He is joined by Hiroki (Japan), recognized as the heaviest sumo champion on Earth, and Ramy (Egypt), a 10-time national champion and one of the most accomplished Arab sumo wrestlers in history.

All-Star Sumo is pioneering the opportunity for international competition, with elite professional sumo veterans. A bout can end in seconds, with a single shift of balance or step beyond the boundary deciding the contest immediately. This is the fastest-pace combat sport you will ever see!

The evening includes the ceremonial traditions, including an introduction of the wrestlers and Japanese Taiko drumming. Guests will also enjoy Japanese themed photo experiences, food and beverage outlets, and official merchandise. By car: There are various ways to reach your destination, including heading southeast on Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street, taking exit 29 toward Khalifa City, and following the ramp to Al Raha Beach East. Then take a slight right to merge onto Al Bandar Street, and turn left onto Ar Rahah Street to reach your location. GPS navigation is highly advised.

By public transportation: There are various ways to reach your destination by taking bus 170 to the Al Rahah St / Transco Power Substation bus stop, followed by a three-minute walk, or bus 175 to the same stop, followed by a four-minute walk.

By taxi: You can easily reach your destination by taking a taxi or a ride-hailing app.
