Welcome to SCHLiNGEL – the international film festival for children, young people and the young at heart! Since its foundation in 1996 in Chemnitz, Germany, SCHLiNGEL has delighted audiences with outstanding films full of imagination, adventure, courage and emotion. Each year, the festival presents carefully selected productions for children and young audiences, bringing inspiring stories from Germany and around the world to the big screen.

From October 21 to 24, 2026, the Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi will once again become a meeting place for young film lovers and families. This year's programme invites audiences to embark on exciting adventures, discover extraordinary friendships and accompany courageous young protagonists on their journeys. Themes such as community, identity, justice, nature, family, friendship and self-confidence are at the heart of the programme.

In addition to the feature films, younger children can look forward to a specially curated short film programme. Filled with imaginative stories, creative animation and plenty of humour, it offers a playful introduction to the magic of cinema and encourages children to explore, laugh and dream.

Presented by the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation, SCHLiNGEL Abu Dhabi brings people together through the power of film. Join us for four days of inspiring stories, unforgettable adventures and cinematic experiences for the whole family.
