Emirati Theatre: Lost Wish (Omniya Mafqooda)

“Lost Wish” is a play that embodies a number of important values that children need. The story centers around a woman and girl, one named Omniya and the other named Ahlam, each living a different life and situation. Omniya is a twenty-year-old that dreams of being a young girl, free from responsibilities and spoiled by her parents, like her young sister is. As for Ahlam, this ten-year-old girl is denied her childhood as she has to care for her ill father, and she dreams of being older and being able to escape the confines of her familial obligations.

A mystical curse befalls them that finally gives Ahlam and Omniya their wish. This curse causes their consciousness to enter the body of the other. As each of them live the trials and tribulations of the other, they realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Through their journey they will discover that patience and perseverance are extremely important values, and are sometimes facing one’s destiny bravely and positively is the best outcome.
