Psychedelic Turkish music and SWANA electro-disco in a unique, genre-defying concert
Gaye Su Akyol
Gaye Su Akyol takes a futuristic approach with an innovative mix of Turkish psychedelia and folk song, surf music and ʼ90s Western rock. The widely acclaimed Istanbul-based singer, songwriter, and producer has recently broadened her palette: starting with Anatolian folk and pop, adding African and Middle Eastern sounds, the soul revolution, disco, and rock from other cultures. As an astute observer of what’s happened to her country, Akyol’s lyrics lure, puzzle, and often surprise. Through sonic expansion and invention, unpredictable sounds, words, and notions are woven together, mingling and dancing in new ways. She describes her most recent album as “a meteor of fresh Turkish psychedelia, fused with my own musical and philosophical journey spiced with dance, pain, hope, blood, sweat and tears, crowded with herds of wild horses.”
