Location: Noche at Hilton Capital Grand Hotel (formerly Rocco Forte Hotel) Recap of Rooftop Rhythms #17 (December 6, 2013): With a relative intimate crowd of 180, slightly down from the 250 average since it had only been two weeks since the November 22 show, the performances and energy were as strong as ever at Rooftop Rhythms #17. Co-hosted by Rooftop Rhythms regular, Paul Roberts representing Al Ain by way of NYC, the show moved smoothly and organically with another strong showing of new, diverse talent. The feature, Will McInerney, visiting the UAE from North Carolina, stunned with strong lyricism and pointed stories relating to the human condition and love for life. The crowd laughed along with Paul (Roberts) & Paul (D)'s staccatos, short poems that are humorous double entendres. Sunnei Dais from Detroit, who came to the show right after bridal shower, performed a beautiful poem about being hours late on her first date with her future hubby only to realize she was right on time. Jibberish, a well known MC originally from Sri Lanka, impressed with an acapella flow that was well written and conceptualized. True, representing Al Ain by way of South Florida, performed "GPS" a clever poem playing on acronym of the letters. Carol Conyers Broadnax, performing for the second month in a row, did her thing with "Diamonds" a metaphoric poem playing on the stone and a dramatic woman. Crowd-favorite, Salem Attas performed a heartfelt poem dedicated to his sister while Aly Hussan Elgayar performed thought-provoking duet with songstress, Reem EKay. There were more firsts at Rooftop Rhythms #17 as well. Salma Sidki and Kenda Roberts both were our first ever Hip-Hop artists. Kenda added flavor with her dual threat of singing as well with her song "Spotlight" with which the crowd sang along.
