ADFF at The Space is a series of film screenings presented by the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in partnership with The Space. The initiative is part of ADFF's continued efforts to showcase highlights of the festival to the community as part of its commitment to a greater selection of screenings and activities in Abu Dhabi throughout the year. ADFF at The Space aims to facilitate and encourage the increasingly active conversation among filmmakers, supporters, patrons and enthusiasts across Abu Dhabi, who are central to the exciting growth of the local film culture. February 2014 OSCARS Explore four ADFF Alumni which have received Academy Award (Oscar) nominations or wins directed by Wim Wenders, Denis Villeneuve, Asghar Farhadi and Felix van Groeningen. Monday, Feb. 3 - 7:00 pm Pina, by Wim Wenders (Germany, 2011) 103 minutes - Color German, English, Russian, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Slovene | English Subtitles [12+] Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, Wim Wenders' "Pina" (2011) is homage to late choreographer Pina Bausch (1940-2009), a leading influence in the development of the Tanztheater style of dance. Bausch was the artistic head of Tanztheater Wuppertal, a German group that fuses modern dance with theatrical flourishes into a kind of hybrid art form. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Denis Villeneuve's "Incendies" (2010) is adapted from Wajdi Mouawad's acclaimed play. A mother's last wishes send twins Jeanne and Simon on a journey to Middle East in search of their tangled roots. Incendies tells the powerful and moving tale of two young adults' voyage to the core of deep-rooted hatred, never-ending wars and enduring love. Nader and Simin argue about living abroad. Simin prefers to live abroad to provide better opportunities for their only daughter, Termeh. However, Nader refuses to go because he thinks he must stay in Iran and take care of his father (Ali-Asghar Shahbazi), who suffers from Alzheimers. However, Simin is determined to get a divorce and leave the country with her daughter. This heartfelt drama charts the love story between Elise, who owns her own tattoo shop, and Didier, who plays the banjo in a Flemish bluegrass band both of whom find their love tested to the limits.
