Rhyme – Sima Dance Company

Contemporary dance embodies Arabic poetry through body, language, and music.

Rhyme invites the awareness of Arabic heritage and culture through an artistic lens, drawing from Arabic poetry, oriental music, and contemporary dance.

Staged through an exchange of narration, where bodies and music are the main reflections of Arabic poetry, the piece uses the universal language of music and movement to break any possible linguistic barrier.

Set to Arabic poetry, the piece makes use of this wonderful linguistic form that reflects many powerful and meaningful images and is naturally correlated with musicality and rhythm.

The beauty of the intrinsic rhythm, rhyme, letters, and music of the poetry all play a massive role in showcasing the concept of the performance, which utilizes the visual nature of the theater as a poetic page.

The performance features live vocals by Mostafa Aldelrady and Lama (also a current member of The Arts Center’s Numoo Artist Development Platform).

● Entry to the NYUAD Campus is through either the West or East Parking or the Welcome Center.
● Entry to the Campus requires a valid Al Hosn Green Pass.
● As per current Department of Culture and Tourism guidelines, in order to attend a performance patrons are required to present their Al Hosn Green Pass for entry, or negative PCR test results not more than 96 hours old (showing on your Al Hosn Green Pass) for the non-vaccinated.
● Patrons will be required to present a valid ticket to an event at The Arts Center upon entry to the campus, either through parking or through the welcome center.
● While on campus masks must be worn at all times (except when actively eating or drinking at a table). Masks must be worn during performances.
● Acceptable Masks ○ Disposable masks (surgical or medical procedure masks)
○ KN95 masks
○ KF94 mask
○ N95 masks
○ Note: Cloth masks, if not accompanied by one of the above, are not acceptable.
● As per current Department of Culture and Tourism guidelines, social distancing will be required and limits to capacity will be strictly adhered to.
● For seated performances, social distancing will be clearly marked and patrons must follow instructions for seating (you may not be able to sit with your entire party).
