Georgian National Ballet Sukhishvili

The Sukhishvili Georgian National Dance Company was founded by the renowned dance couple Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili.

The 70-strong ensemble's repertoire includes folk dances of Georgia's various ethnic groups and theatricals with live music played on folk instruments. The ensemble's trademark is its breathtaking capacity to leap, which only a few dancers in the world can do as the performers surge up like birds flying to the sun.

The Georgian National Dance Company was the only dance ensemble to set a world record at the famous La Scala stage in Milan, where the curtain rose 14 times. While in the United States, Sukhishvili's performances were recognized twice as the best shows on Broadway."

Founded in 1945 by legendary Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili in Tbilisi, Sukhishvili was the first professional state dance company in the Soviet Union.

Since its establishment, the company has performed in 98 countries with full houses in the Albert Hall, the Coliseum, New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, and Madison Square Garden. With more than 300 tours and 20,000 performances, the ensemble has entertained 90 million people and put Georgian folk dance on the world map.

The company even influenced fashion. Their dazzling performance in Paris became the inspiration behind one of the collections of Yves Saint Laurent, the famous French fashion designer. In the 1950s and 1960s the most influential designers of Paris and Milan – Chanel, Giorgio Armani, and Christian Dior – worked together with Nino Ramishvili to create the ensemble’s stage costumes – sumptuous and exquisitely delicate.

In 2020 Sukhishvili performed in Dubai for the first time and now coming to Abu Dhabi to take place with their first performance.
