Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

At the meeting point of land and sea on Saadiyat Island, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is a museum of modern and contemporary art shaped by ten sculptural cones.

Designed by the late Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Frank Gehry, nine are clad in stainless steel mesh and one in onyx and glass, rising up to 88 metres.

Inside, 30 galleries flow through a central atrium across 11,600 square metres. Step outside and the cones and surrounding terraces open up another 23,000 square metres of exhibition space to explore.

The museum is in the Saadiyat Cultural District alongside Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, and fellow institutions that make this one of the greatest concentrations of cultural spaces in the world.

The collection has been building since 2009 and spans painting, sculpture, installation, photography, moving image, and new media. It takes a transcultural approach, moving beyond chronology and geography to trace artistic lineages, networks, and exchanges, covering art from the 1960s to the present.

There is no single prescribed path through this place. Galleries are organised around major vectors of art since 1960: Abstractions, Popular Culture, Land, Language, and Storytelling. A multilingual programme of commissions, research, and exhibitions runs alongside the collection.
