The New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1972 by legendary conductors Seiji Ozawa and Naozumi Yamamoto. Charismatic Japanese conductor, Yutaka Sado, has been the music director since 2023 and he conducts two concerts to open the 2025 Abu Dhabi Festival. In the first concert, star tenor Jonathan Tetelman, praised for his ‘radiant and distinctive sound’, sings Arias by Puccini from Manon Lescaut, Le Villi, and Turandot.
The pianist Kyohei Sorita, winner of the silver medal at the 2021 Chopin Competition in Warsaw, plays Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and the orchestra plays Dvořák’s New World Symphony No. 9.

In the second concert for the 2025 Abu Dhabi Festival, rising star pianist Kyohei Sorita plays Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the orchestra plays Yasushi Akutagawa’s Triptyque for Strings and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. With his world-renowned signature sound, Sorita’s artistry has made him one of the most sought-after artists on the Japanese concert scene.
Beyond his home country, he has become increasingly popular in Germany, Austria, Poland, and Australia, particularly in the 19th-century Romantic repertory.
