Ghazi Al-MulaifiDr. Ghazi Faisal Al-Mulaifi is a Grammy-nominated musician, bandleader, and Professor of Music at NYU Abu Dhabi. A Venice Biennale artist with a PhD in Music from New York University, he is widely recognised for pioneering Khaleeji Jazz. In 2017, he founded Boom.Diwan, an ensemble that reimagines Gulf musical traditions through contemporary jazz dialogue. Drawing inspiration from the Kuwaiti Boom ship and the Diwan as a space of cultural exchange, his work bridges heritage and innovation. Al-Mulaifi’s practice centres on cross-cultural collaboration and the revitalisation of Arabian Gulf musical traditions on the global stage.
Nduduzo MakhathiniDr. Nduduzo Makhathini is an internationally acclaimed pianist, composer, and scholar from South Africa, currently signed to Blue Note Records. Holding a PhD in Music, he is also a musicologist at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. As a bandleader, he has released twelve albums and performs extensively worldwide. His work is deeply rooted in African cosmology, spirituality, and improvisational jazz traditions. His latest album, uNomkhubulwane (2024), draws on Nguni mythology and explores themes of fertility, water, and cosmic balance.
Liany MateoLiany Mateo is a jazz bassist from Jersey City, New Jersey, recognised for her musical maturity and early achievements in the jazz world. She has studied with leading jazz educators and performed alongside acclaimed artists through prominent youth jazz programs. Mateo has received multiple honours for her musicianship, including the Governor of New Jersey’s Award in Arts Education. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University, studying under renowned bassist Rodney Whitaker.
Elé Salif HowellElé Salif Howell is a drummer, composer, and bandleader from Northern California who began his musical journey at an early age. Educated at NYU, he formed a close artistic mentorship with legendary drummer Lenny White. Howell is currently touring internationally with Chief Adjuah and performs with Ravi Coltrane, bringing intensity, sensitivity, and a strong modern jazz voice to every collaboration.
